First Tenants Move Into Washington Square Apartments

8 Aug 2018

The Washington Square Apartments have officially opened, and new renters are settling into maintenance-free living.

Property Manager Jennifer Yendra said five of the 18 units have already been leased. Three tenants, including Robert Glidden and his wife of Kearney, moved in by mid-July. Two more were expected to move in by August 1.

Robert said he and his wife looked at the apartments near the end of June after they had trouble finding a place to rent in Kearney when their house sold faster than expected.

“Jennifer showed us the apartments, and they looked nice,” Robert said. “They were very obliging, and we signed a lease right on the spot.”

Washington Square Apartments are owned by Flat River Enterprises LLC.

Community members attended a grand opening, ribbon cutting and open house for the new apartments on July 13. Jennifer conducted open houses on July 18 and 21.

Jennifer said the potential tenants and the tenants who have signed leases have been a variety of ages, from retirees to young couples.

The 1,025 square-foot apartments all have the same floor plan and feature a spacious kitchen, a living room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, including a large master bathroom. All appliances, including a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave and stackable washer and dryer are included. Mowing and snow removal are also included, which saves money on outdoor maintenance equipment and the time of performing those duties.

The need for the apartments was revealed in a recent Phelps County housing study, which estimated that Phelps County will need 270 additional housing units by 2022. Of those units, the study recommended that 100 be rental housing units. The Phelps County Development Corporation purchased the former Washington School property and sold it to Flat River Enterprises, who developed the new units in an effort to meet that housing demand.

Construction on the new apartments began in August 2017 and was completed in June 2018.

Jennifer said the apartments rent for $900 a month and typically require a year-long lease. For more information or to schedule a showing, contact Jennifer at (308) 224-4228.
