June Completion Date Expected for Washington Square Apartments

    February 22, 2018

It has been just six months since ground was broken on the new Washington Square Apartments, and construction is on schedule to be completed in early June.

The project on the former site of Washington Elementary School at Eighth Avenue and Morton Street includes 18 townhome-style apartments to fill a need for workforce housing in Holdrege. Flat River Enterprises is the developer for the $2.25 million project. BD Construction of Kearney is the main contractor.

Much of the exterior of the project has already been completed, and work is progressing on the apartment interiors and finishing touches.

Marsha Wilkerson, Marketing and Community Outreach Manager for BD Construction, said as of early February, water and sewer work was next on the list of work to be completed followed by paving and landscaping and interior finishes like carpet, woodwork, cabinetry and painting.

The work is being done in phases to make the best use of the craftsman involved.

Each of the 18 units is 1,025 square feet and includes two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Kitchen appliances (oven, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher) are included along with a washer and dryer, hot water heater, and heating and air conditioning.

Although final rent price has not yet been set, applications are already being accepted for those interested in being the first to rent the finished apartments. Interested renters may contact Jennifer Yendra at (308) 224-4228. Rent prices will be calculated based on the final cost of the project.
