Feb. 15 Deadline Approaches for High-Demand Jobs Scholarship

1 Feb 2017

Graduating seniors, college students or underemployed workers seeking a Phelps County career are encouraged to apply for the high-demand jobs scholarships offered by the Phelps County Development Corporation and the Phelps County Community Foundation.

The scholarships financially assist students studying for careers that are in high demand in Phelps County, such as nursing, agri-business and technology, diesel mechanics, engineering technology, mechatronics engineering, injection mold technology, electro-mechanical technology, tool and die making, construction trades and welding.

Scholarship winners must promise to return to the county to work in one these high-demand career fields after their education.

Alli Donohue, PCDC Project Coordinator, said the scholarships are a win-win for local employers and for students seeking financial assistance for college.

“PCDC’s ultimate goal is to retain talent and invest in a capable and qualified workforce for the future of employers in Phelps County,” Donohue said.

Interested applicants may apply at www.phelpsfoundation.org through February 15. Applicants must be a graduate or graduating senior of any high school or have achieved a GED. They must be planning to enroll or be a current student of any college, technical or trade school.

Students who do not return to Phelps County will be asked to repay the scholarships. Preference will be given to Phelps County residents or Phelps County graduates and to students who select a technical or trade program of study as opposed to a bachelor’s degree program.
