PCDC at Your Doorstep: Why We Conduct Business Intelligence Meetings Throughout the Year
November 14, 2024
The Phelps County Development Corporation (PCDC) relies heavily on community input to shape the region's future. Our team listens to your ideas, concerns, and hopes and then applies them to policies throughout the year. When residents of Phelps County worry about finding housing, we make that a priority. When employers need to hire employees with specific skills, we connect them with workforce development programs.
We collect community input through business intelligence meetings, which are conversational appointments with local businesses, community groups, and other local stakeholders. These meetings allow residents to share their ideas directly with our team, which we can then bring back to the board of directors.
“Everyone at PCDC is passionate about improving where they live,” says Ron Tillery, Executive Director of PCDC. “However, fresh perspectives from the community is a critical component so we can properly serve their interests.”
If representatives from PCDC haven’t stopped by your business, we might be visiting you soon. Learn more about these business intelligence meetings and the value they provide.
PCDC Meets With Business Owners Throughout the Year
PCDC usually conducts 25 to 30 intelligence meetings each year, spread out over the months and built around the schedules of local business owners. These meetings are not interviews in the strictest sense. Instead, they are a more informal dialogue about the opportunities and pain points that the business is experiencing. We have specific points of information that we want to gather but a conversational style often reveals important details that can get overlooked in a structured interview.
“Conducting these meetings allows us to identify trends in the community,” says Tillery. “When we hear similar concerns from businesses of different sizes and from various sectors, we can identify problems that affect all of Phelps County.”
The information from these meetings is then brought to office discussions and board meetings when PCDC sets its goals for the year. This is one way the organization better meets residents' needs.
“Our goal is to prove a direct connection between resident input and the actions of PCDC,” says Tillery. “We work for Phelps County residents and play an active role in making this community better.”
These Meetings Also Help Business Owners Form Connections
These discussions also foster growth. “We love bragging about local businesses,” says Tillery. “If we learn about a new product or system, we can share that with other parts of the business community.” Or, PCDC might be able to recommend partners to work with or provide introductions to other community members.
“The more our organization knows about your business, the more we can support it,” says Tillery.
