Phelps County Hosts Town Hall on Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project

    December 12, 2024

The public is invited to a Community Conversation and Town Hall meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, to learn more about the DG Fuels synthetic fuel project planned for Phelps County.

The theme for the event is Phelps County is feeding and fueling America.

DG Fuels, PCDC, and Nebraska BioEconomy are hosting and organizing the event, which will take place at the Phelps County Ag Center at 1308 2nd St. in Holdrege.

The agenda includes comments from Julie Bushell, President of GSD Partnership, who Gov. Jim Pillen has chosen to lead the Nebraska BioEconomy Initiative, and Shane Westcott, President of PCDC and leader of the local development team. Mike Darcy, CEO of DG Fuels, will attend to describe the project. PCDC Executive Director Ron Tillery will emcee the event.

DG Fuels is expected to purchase an estimated 1.2 million tons of corn stover annually adding $144 million into the pockets of farmers in south-central Nebraska.

Gov. Jim Pillen has said that bioeconomy projects like DG Fuels will be Nebraska’s “Silicon Valley” opportunity. Pillen said these projects will boost the state’s rural economy and revitalize the job market.

The event will conclude with an opportunity for dialog and feedback from attendees. Ag producers in attendance can register for personal one-on-one or small group meetings regarding the grower agreement. Those meetings are scheduled to begin in January.

For more information about this upcoming meeting or the DG Fuels project, please contact Ron Tillery at (308) 995-4148 or email ron@phelpscountyne.com.
