Town Hall Meeting Set on Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project
December 6, 2024
The public is invited to a Community Conversation and Town Hall meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, to learn more about the $5.5 billion DG Fuels sustainable aviation fuel project planned for Phelps County.
DG Fuels, PCDC and Nebraska BioEconomy are hosting and organizing the event, which will take place at the Phelps County Ag Center at 1308 2nd St. in Holdrege.
The agenda includes comments from Julie Bushell, President of Global Sustainability Developers LLC, who Gov. Jim Pillen has chosen to lead the Nebraska BioEconomy Initiative, and Shane Westcott, President of PCDC and leader of the local development team. Mike Darcy, CEO of DG Fuels, will attend to describe the project.
DG Fuels is expected to purchase an estimated 1.2 million tons of corn stover annually adding $144 million of new revenue into the pockets of farmers in south-central Nebraska.
Pointing to the region’s unique resource base and an unparalleled farmer network, Ron Tillery, PCDC Executive Director and emcee for the event, said “Phelps County is feeding and fueling America.” Gov. Jim Pillen predicts that bioeconomy projects like DG Fuels will become Nebraska’s “Silicon Valley.” Pillen said these projects will boost the state’s rural economy and revitalize the job market.
The event will conclude with an opportunity for dialog and feedback from attendees. Ag producers in attendance can register for private one-on-one or small group meetings regarding a grower agreement to provide feedstock to DG Fuels. Those meetings are scheduled to begin in January.
