October is Manufacturing Month in the U.S. and many are using this month to educate people about the Manufacturing industry and provide opportunities for them to learn the inner workings of businesses within this industry. Phelps County’s Central Nebraska Manufacturing Partnership (CNMP) has joined the nation in participating in Manufacturing month this year with a month-long celebration of educational events.

The Central Nebraska Manufacturing Partnership has put together an entire month of tours, events, and activities for people to help them explore a future career in the Manufacturing industry. The Central Nebraska Manufacturing Partnership has planned out an entire month of fun, educational opportunities for students, including touring Manufacturing businesses in the area. Throughout the month of October Manufacturers throughout the Phelps County region will open its doors to students, parents, teachers, and other local residents for an opportunity to learn more about these businesses and the Manufacturing industry.

The Central Nebraska Manufacturing Partnership was founded in 2017. This conglomerate consists of 40 Central Nebraska Manufacturers who meet each quarter to identify areas of potential regional growth and find ways to help the region’s Manufacturing industry to thrive. The Central Nebraska Manufacturing Partnership is supported by over 40 public partners and 19 agencies who serve on teams to address obstacles and implement solutions. Partnerships with schools, training, and transportation agencies to help create and maintain greater economic success in Phelps County.

Manufacturing month was created to help businesses in the Manufacturing industry create awareness about their businesses, educate and recruit future employees by connecting with future generations, and educate people on the opportunities that they have within the Phelps County region in this industry.

The month-long celebration kicked off on October 1st with the “Manufacturing Experience for City/County Officials, Business Representatives, and Educators” seminar at the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce. Case New Holland also has a seminar on October 23rd, invitation-only, where Governor Mike Foley will present on the business and youth apprenticeship program, Career Pathways.

Other events planned include tours of local Manufacturing businesses such as Becton Dickinson, Eaton Corporation, Royal Engineered Composites, Standard Iron & Wire Works, and Thermo King. Special events for students included a Manufacturing experience at the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce, which started at the beginning of the month and will occur throughout October. Kearney Works also provided students with the opportunity to join their skilled & technical career resource day. This was designed to show students the opportunities that can have in the future in the Manufacturing industry right here in Phelps County and the surrounding region.

The Manufacturing Industry is alive and thriving here in Phelps County. It is the Central Nebraska Manufacturing Partnership’s hope that students and other prospective future employees will learn about the opportunities they have right here in our County to work in this industry.
