Discover Holdrege in New Community Guide
November 24, 2015
A new Holdrege community guide that will be used as a recruitment tool and as a resource for local residents has just been released.
The 36-page publication contains information about local businesses, schools, churches and recreation opportunities as well as data like labor pool statistics and tax information that would be pertinent to potential new businesses or industry.
The Nebraska Public Power District offers free assistance to the towns it serves to create community guides. The Phelps County Development Corporation took the lead on making it happen locally over the past year thanks to the information gathering skills and time of PCDC Administrative Assistant Stacy Pafford.
“I think there’s a lot of great information in there,” Pafford said. “I think people will be surprised to see what all is here.”
Pafford began work on the project in June of 2014 and gathered photographs and statistics during the past year.
Toward the back of the guide, Pafford put together a listing of the number of various professional and business community services, and she was surprised to learn how many services are available in the community. For example, there are seven chiropractors, 52 registered nurses and 11 certified public accountants.
“I was really surprised at how many of each job is here,” Pafford said. “There’s just a lot more here than we realize.”
A previous community guide had been published in 2010, and this new guide has many updates.
An online version of the guide is available here and can be updated with small changes as they occur. NPPD suggests a full update to community guides every two years.
Pafford said the guide will also be on NPPD’s web site, along with guides from 21 other Nebraska communities, to be used as a recruiting tool for businesses looking to locate in the state.
They will also be presented at trade shows and other events that PCDC staff or volunteers attend to promote the area.
Local organizations may request a printed copy of the booklet by calling Stacy at 995-4148 or stopping by the office at 502 East Avenue, Suite 201.
