PCDC Annual Meeting Features UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green
March 5, 2018
The Bridal Isle & Phelps Memorial Health Center Honored
UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green will speak at the Phelps County Development Corporation’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 22, at the Taste of Texas in downtown Holdrege.
PCDC investors and the public are invited to attend the meeting to celebrate the community and PCDC’s successes in growing and building Phelps County during the past year.
Green has served as the chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since May 2016. He has a strong agricultural background starting with his childhood on a grain and livestock farm in southwestern Virginia. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in animal science and a doctorate in animal breeding and genetics. He has served in several leadership positions for the U.S. Beef Improvement Federal, National Cattleman’s Beef Association, National Pork Board and the National Research Council. He currently serves as chair of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities Commission on Food, Energy and Renewable Resources.
Green’s message will resonate especially with local ag producers as he shares his thoughts on economic development opportunities for locally-produced commodities.
Also at the meeting, two local businesses will be honored as Businesses of the Year: The Bridal Isle in Loomis and Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
The Bridal Isle is being recognized for its unique success in serving a specialty market that stretches across Nebraska and into neighboring states. The wedding gown and formal wear store has continued to grow and serve its customer base despite a rapidly changing retail environment.
PMHC is recognized for its sustained regional impact, its continued growth and investment and its positive economic contributions to Phelps County. The selection committee also noted PMHC’s stellar performance among its peers not only in Nebraska but also across the nation, underscored by its recent selection as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital.
PCDC will conduct its annual business meeting at the event, including remarks from PCDC Board President Doug Stevenson about PCDC’s accomplishments in the past year.
The event will begin with a 6:30 p.m. reception at Taste of Texas, 302 East Ave., in Holdrege. Advance tickets are $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight and include a meal of either smoked prime rib or boneless BBQ chicken breast. Tickets are $35 the day of the event if seating is still available. The event is limited to 125 attendees.
