The food revolution
29 May 2017
The old saying that you are what you eat appears to have taken root in the American psyche. More people than ever care deeply about where their food comes from, how it was produced, and the quality of the results.
This shift has resulted in barely imaginable farm success stories—small family farms making a sustainable living from carefully tending the land. One example is Nebraska Star Beef, based in Phelps County, NE. After coaching Whole Foods on how to source natural, healthy beef, the farmers behind the company set out to launch their own line of direct-to-consumer meats.
For those of us who work at the Phelps County Development Corporation (PCDC), success stories like this one are one of the perks of the job. When the passion of an enterprising entrepreneur pays off in success, it means success for the entire community.
