Tuesday, June 26, 2018
Carley Bruning has just completed her first session with Leadership Nebraska, and she is excited to share local success stories and learn from others in this program that helps identify emerging leaders and deepens their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing the state.
Carley, PCDC’s Director of Business Operations, was one of 30 Nebraskans chosen to participate in the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Leadership Nebraska Class XI. She is joined by other leaders from across the state, including a state senator, a lawyer, city officials, non-profit organization leaders, bankers and business leaders.
“It is an honor,” Carley said of her selection into this elite group. PCDC Executive Director Ron Tillery encouraged Carley to apply.
Carley attended her first Leadership Nebraska meeting June 13-15 in Nebraska City, where she heard from guest speakers such as Dr. Cory Epler with the Nebraska Department of Education, Greg Adams of the Nebraska Community College Association, Steve Wellman with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, David Drozd of UNO’s Center for Public Affairs Research and many others.
Carley is looking forward to the networking opportunities, the chance to grow as a leader and ideas she will learn to improve Phelps County.
“It’s teaching you all of the current issues, what we are doing as a state to solve this issues and how you as a leader can bring back this information to change your community,” Carley said of the program.
The first session also included an Emergenetics test to determine existing personality and leadership strengths and how to work well with others of differing strengths.
“We got to learn how we can work as a team with people like us and people not like us,” Carley said.
The second session will be Aug. 15-17 and will include a bus tour of western Nebraska, including Gothenburg, North Platte, Ogallala and Scottsbluff with the goal of helping participants understand the challenges and opportunities unique to each community and to great Nebraska.
